Bowls
Little Shelford bowls club open days
April 20 and 27th
Unless we can encourage more village members to take up bowls this season, our bowls club is in real danger of folding after 100 years of bowls being played in Little Shelford.
Why not come along to our two open taster sessions at the Wale Recreation Ground in Little Shelford on Saturday 20th and 27th April, 2.30 to 5.00 pm when tuition will be given and equipment
provided: all you need is a pair of flat-soled shoes.
So please come along and have a go! You’re never too young or old to take it up.
Get in touch or just turn up.

Funny Business
A conversation with Ian Whybrow
April 23
Friends of Great Shelford Library present:
Funny Business
A conversation with Ian Whybrow about a lifetime mucking about with words.
It is Ian Whybrow’s proud boast that for 20 years running he was recorded as one of the top ten most borrowed authors from British libraries. In his funny and engaging children’s books, he has been essential reading for millions of children for generations - in 40 languages.
For the best part of four years now, Ian has written (at least) a poem a day. In sharing with us some of his fondest memories of working and talking with publishers and children, he will be introducing a group of adult enthusiasts for the written word, a selection of these witty, bracing, sometimes quirky, always thought-provoking pieces about experiences we all share.
He likes, he says, to come at things “aslant” as Emily Dickinson or Stevie Smith did, and like Blake, he looks for the world in a grain of sand. Expect to go home from this encounter encouraged to write for your own pleasure and - who knows? - even to devote a bit of time to reading poetry.
Great Shelford Library, Tuesday 23 April at 7.30 pm. Tickets - £5 (Friends - £3) available in advance from the Library or on the door if space is available. Refreshments afterwards.
